I have been absent from my blog due to battling several illnesses. I have been sick for years and have gone to multiple specialists and doctors who could find nothing wrong with me. I was dealing with debilitating fatigue, weight gain, reoccurring SIBO, joint pain, food intolerances, headaches, insomnia, weakness, and the list goes on and on. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos early last year and given a T4 medication, I did my own research and decided to modify my diet by going AIP and limit the amount of harmful chemicals in my everyday environment (beauty/household products) - check out ewg.org to lean more. I also found out about possible celiac a few years ago but I'm not willing to eat gluten for weeks in order to have a test, because it makes me deathly sick. I felt a little relief but then I quickly felt worse again, no matter what I tried. Conventional medicine had failed me. I decided to do my research on functional medicine doctors in my area and found one that I really liked and who actually listened to me (that was a first!). We did a huge blood panel and it confirmed my hashimotos, along with high inflammatory markers and poor liver function, both mutations for the MTHFR gene, and I also had a few concerning heart markers. He also suggested a stool analysis and cortisol saliva test, along with something none of my doctors had ever mentioned before... a Lyme questionnaire by Dr. Horowitz. Well, after reviewing my blood tests I was out on A compounded free T3 + T4, LDN, vitamins, and herbal antibiotics for SIBO. My adrenals are completely shot, so I am working on healing those as well.
Now, as far as my Lyme questionnaire goes, my likelihood of having Lyme was almost definite. So, my doctor did the Western Blot and CD57. According to my tests I had borrelia and EPV virus (Lyme co infections), and most definitely chronic Lyme (meaning that I've likely had it since I was a child). We had to do a month round of prescription antibiotics plus multiple herbal antibiotics for 6+ months. I am so relived to have discovered my route cause for hashimotos, however, I have a long road of recovery ahead. I get a blood test every 3-6 months in order to check my healing progress. I still am lifting but he only cardio I can do is walking, as I am having some heart problems (probably from Lyme), and just had an ECHO done. I am also reverse dieting as dieting just isn't a good idea for my body at the moment. Please don't give up if you feel that something isn't right with your body. I may have chronic illnesses, but I don't plan on giving up the fight! 😊💪🏻
I'm looking froward to spreading the word about Lyme and thyroid disease. I will also be sharing some of my latest recipes.
